Location: Columbus, Ohio

Commitment: Monthly board meetings (1.5 hours) plus 8 additional hours per month for committee meetings and volunteering. Give an annual personal financial donation or fundraise a donation that is meaningful to you. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

About Us: Pint Size Protesters is a 501c3 nonprofit organization with the mission of raising anti-racist children and fostering the next generation of social justice activists. We believe that Black Lives Matter and our mission is to give kids and families a safe space in the movement through our 3 pillars:

  • Organize: Call for change in our community through targeted actions to influence policy and hold our leaders accountable.
  • Educate: Provide in-person and virtual learning opportunities, resources and conversations for kids and caregivers around social justice issues impacting the Black community.
  • Demonstrate: Host family friendly protests, rallies, vigils, and other actions geared at bringing awareness and demanding change.

Position Overview: As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of Pint Size Protesters. You will work collaboratively with fellow board members and the executive team to ensure the organization meets its mission and goals. This position requires a commitment to social justice principles and a passion for educating and empowering youth and families. Pint Size Protesters is a growing agency and needs board members that are interested in actively assisting with this growth, which is why we ask each board member to commit 8 hours of volunteer time monthly to our mission.

Board Member Expectations:
As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, each Pint Size Protesters board member is expected to:

  • Demonstrate infectious passion for the Pint Size Protesters mission and vision by promoting its good work in the community, encouraging support for its efforts, and keeping informed about its programs and activities
  • Regularly, prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board and committee meetings
  • Devote 8 additional hours per month (outside of board meetings) for committee meetings and volunteering at Size Protesters activities and initiatives
  • Help set long-term priorities for Pint Size Protesters, including assisting with strategic planning
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization by introducing Pint Size Protesters to new families, communities, corporate sponsors, foundations, media, and potential partners
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to secure funding that is necessary for Pint Size Protesters to advance its mission
  • Faithfully read and understand Pint Size Protesters’ financial statements and guide fiscal decision making
  • Give an annual, personal financial donation that is meaningful to you
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting other board members
  • Participate in Pint Size Protesters events and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Social Justice: Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles required. Experience organizing social justice actions and/or leading political or community mobilization efforts preferred.
  • Board Experience: Previous experience in nonprofit governance, education, or DEI initiatives is preferred, but not required.
  • Passion for Education: A genuine passion for working with youth and families and promoting equity is required. Early childhood development and/or instructional design experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Community Engagement: Experience with community organizing, developing partnerships and managing a wide network of supporters or volunteers is preferred, but not required.
  • Fundraising: Experience in fundraising, donor relations, grant writing and grants management is a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to articulate the organization’s mission and goals to various stakeholders.
